"Five young players striking creative sparks from each other's energy, and making music that spills over with sly humour and sheer musicality." - Katie Malloch, CBC's Jazzbeat Rabnett 5 has been writing, recording, and touring new music for 6 years. The lineup has remained completely intact over this period with Mike Kennedy on Bass, Ian Cox on Piano/Organ and Rhodes, Dan Gaucher on Drums, and Kiyoshi Elkuf on Tenor Saxophone. Over the years they have recorded 4 albums of original music, characterized by catchy but quirky melodies and a thick as mollases group sound. As an ever evolving Jazz band, the group has most recently recorded an organ record for the fiercely independant ROPEADOPE label in Philadelphia. This new music finds the band stomping out dirty grooves, and improvising as a whole to create a tight, rhythmically surging group sound. While buliding on the success of the work with Brad Turner, including the 2005 WCMA nominee "Reclamation", the new music features many of the earmarks of it's designer, Scotty Hard. The new album "Leopardism" will be available this spring ('08) from Ropeadope and Quirk Audio. |
